The Princess Proclaims.....

"My mind went on vacation but now it's back!"

"Mom, when I grow up, I'm going to be a Princess Ballerina Fairy Mermaid Astronaut."

"Mom, I'm really sad right now. I wanted to marry Prince Eric. I want to have a real baby. I want to fall in love."

"Mom, I love learning about God and singing about God. Everyone needs to learn about God!"

"Mom, when we say I Love You to each other, it makes my heart sing!"

"Dad, I have to tell you something. Did you know when you eat, your ears wiggle?"

Our New Thanksgiving Tradition?

Nick is working today.  He pretty much works all holidays as his company is open 365 days a year.  This generally means we don't celebrate holidays with other people like most do.  Today, we packed a few things in the car and drove to a place we have not been to in quite a while.  It is a place we love very much, so we decided to go today before Nick had to work. We'll have our Thanksgiving dinner tonight when he gets his dinner break around 5pm.

Can you guess where we went? I'll give you a hint. There's lots of white stuff on the ground.

No.....we were NOT in the snow.  BRRRRRRRRRR.

Here's another hint. You could hear loud crashing noises.

No, we did NOT go to the speedway although it sometimes sounds like it on the main street here.

How about a photo hint.  Here's E and her daddy on a walkway to where we went.

Did you guess the beach?  You'd be right.  We LOVE the beach.  We only live a little over a mile from the ocean yet we have only been here a few times this past year.  We used to live here...well not RIGHT on the beach, but just a block away.  We really, really miss being close enough to just walk here anytime.

Yippee...we're here!

Taking a walk on the beach

All that walking wore me out

We had fun.  I think we'll do this again next year!

Peace and Quiet

E takes after her big brother...she LOVES to talk...and talk....and talk...and talk.  Morning, noon and night.  When my son was younger, my dad would say to him "J, stuff a sock in it!"  I have said  would never say that to E.  So, whether she needs it or not, whether she wants to sleep or not, she has rest time every day. Some days she sleeps, some days she sits on her bed and reads books.  I'm not particular...just as long as she is Q U I E T...like this:

All things must come to an end.  Rest time is over and the non-stop whirlwind known as The Princess will be back at it...made worse because it is a rainy day today so no going outside to expel some of her energy.  But, along with all the talking, there are minutes of hugs and lots of "I love you Mom" and I am thankful she is here with me to even make such a racket joyful noise.

Cough, Cough, Cough

It would seem The Princess is getting a bit of a cold. Her daddy had one earlier this week, and now it is her turn. She rarely gets sick and when she does, it is usually mild and for a short duration. Hoping it is this time as well.

She says her throat hurts. Last time, I gave her Children's Cold Calm, which worked great. I gave her some this morning but we ran out, so I tried giving her a/c vinegar/honey/water and that was a no-go. Tried to give her warm water/honey/lemon and again, no! She will, however, drink as much orange slushy as I will give her...she just finished off a big glass and says it tastes like ice cream.

Orange Slushy (put all ingredients into a blender)
1 cup OJ
1/2 cup milk
16 ice cubs
Splash vanilla
Squeeze of Agave Nectar

She's acting/looks fine so other than drinking lots of liquids, its business as usual for The Princess.

Of Trees and Friends and Giggles

There is a tree near our house that grows somewhat parallel to the ground before reach upward.  Kids have been using it as a climbing tree for years.  Our friend, who has lived in the neighborhood for 20+ years, said her kids climbed on it when they were little, and now her granddaughter climbs on it.  E has been asking to go climb on it for a long time, so today we took her there.  She took one look at it and decided she wasn't interested in climbing.  This is the same child, who when she was two, climbed the climbing wall at the local park w/o looking back.  This tree, however, which was just a few feet off the ground and it was too scary for her.  Go figure.

We talked her into trying, and after a few minutes, and some help from mommy and daddy, she relaxed a bit and had some fun. Someone had hung a swing from the tree, so E climbed up for a quick swing but I don't think she liked that the swing was so high up off the ground.

After we were done playing at the tree, we decided to continue our walk and ran into our friend and her granddaughter who were playing at a little pond.

It was time for lunch so we all started walking home.  B wanted to hold E's hand.  It was so cute.

Slow down E, I can't walk that fast!

Hey, now you're walking to slow!

Ahhhh.  Just right.

That's what E said when she opened the package from Grandma today. Once again, Grandma hit a home run. Cut, cut, cut........

went the little scissors. Guided by the hand of a little girl, the scissors were busy creating a work of art. "Oh, oh," thought the little girl, putting the scissors down. "Hi daddy!" "Hi, E," said the daddy, totally oblivious to what the little girl had been doing. "Phew, that was close" said the little girl as her daddy left the room. "Oh, no. Here comes mom!" "What is that? Is that hair on the ground? Where did that come from? What, is that more hair? What is going on? What the heck? WHAT THE HECK?? DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR???????" yelled the mommy asked calmly. "Ummm, well, ummmmm, yes" said the little girl. "What in the world would make you cut your hair? You know better!!" asked the mom. "Ummm, well, ummmm, I didn't MEAN to!" said the little girl. "You didn't mean to?" repeated the mom. "What, did the scissors just jump up there and cut your hair for you?" "Well, no" said the girl. "Well, then, I think you DID mean to!" yelled the mom said calmly, as she struggled to even out the haircut her previously angelic little daughter had given herself. *sigh*

Here is the best I could do. I wanted to have her hair cut anyway because it has gotten long enough that when she twirls it at night, it gets into such tangles that she cries when I brush it, but I didn't want it to happen like this!
